Sargento's Worst Company in the World?
Sargento: The Worst Company in the World?
Insulting responses fuel Beck fans' contempt (and a rush to buy Kraft and Cabot)

A recent email from Sargento, sounding like it was crafted by K.O. himself...

Dear Ms. Sorensen -- We appreciate your sharing your concerns about our advertising. Our organization remains true to its mid-western roots and values. Some would say that means we're conservative. In the end, we hold true to our nation's heritage that values free expression of varying political opinions. We advertise on Fox News, however, we felt Glenn Beck went too far when he suggested poisoning someone with whom he disagrees. Rhetoric that reflects action that would result in the death of someone is never acceptable to us. Therefore, we have advised our advertising agency that they should reallocate our Fox News buy among other Fox News programs.

Our wish overall is to move beyond the conversation about politics and focus on our primary mission to bring consumers great cheese products. We don't want to be associated with inflammatory speech used by either liberal or conservative talk show hosts. Again, thank you for taking the time to share your views with us.

Pat Lombardo
Sargento Consumer Affairs Department

Glenn Beck suggested poisoning someone? That's horrible! What "rhetoric" did Beck issue that is so dangerous it might result in the "death of someone"? Here it is...

OMG! Alert the FBI and Interpol! A man on TV just suggested that Nancy Pelosi should be....

Uh, wait a minute, was that perhaps, um, could it possibly have been, er a....JOKE?

Yes, Sargento really did call a 1 second "cafe" parody with a cardboard cutout of Nancy Pelosi provocational piece of "rhetoric" that could result in the "death of someone". In fact, we called Pat Lombardo over at Sargento, and she ramped up the hysteria even further. Ms. Lombardo said "We saw the show where he said the Speaker of the House should be poisoned-I saw it with my own eyes- and we felt we couldn't continue to support the program."

Watch the video again. Did Glenn Beck say the Speak of the House "should be poisoned"?

Here's another letter from Sargento to one of our readers...

Sargento makes high quality cheese available to people who want these products, regardless of their political affiliations. As a business, we may not agree with many of the current administration's policies.
However, we also do not want to be associated with hateful speech used by either liberal or conservative television hosts. We'll share your comments with our marketing department.

Well, I'm sure Sargento must have pulled their advertisement off Keith Olbermann's show after this hate-filled sexist rant with a gay columist against Miss California Carrie Prejean, right...?

Uh, no. Not exactly. They still advertise with him and all over MSNBC. Hypocrisy and outright political bias is not a particularly attractive quality in a company that wants your family's business. Which is probably why DefendGlenn.com has been beseiged by feedback such as this...

"Plese know that my wife buys your cheese to make everything from lasagna to ricotta cheese cake to cheese and crackers for our kids. We will no longer be using Sargento products in our house. I am disappointed that your company decided to pull your advertising from Glenn Becks show."

"I informed Ms. Lombardo that Sargento cheese had always been our favorite but we would no longer be buying Sargento. "

"I am now a former Sargento customer. Love the cheese, but will no longer help any business that is against the 1st amendment"

"I told her Glenn's show was a favorite of ours and that he was speaking in jest and it was taken wildly out of context. Also, I said I would not buy Sargento's products any longer. She said that was perfectly ok with them."

"I usually buy about 40 packs of Sargentos shredded cheese to use with our annual school PTO Pizza Party in Septmeber. We will be buying Cabot instead."

"We will never...EVER...buy Sargento again. And in this family of 8 that is a LOT of cheese, believe me."

"I told the manager at my local Safeway that we would never buy Sargentos again, and to stock more Cabot, which is frankly just as good."

"Why are you guys lying about Glenn? From now on, Kraft in my kitchen. What's wrong with you people?"

"even if you crawl back to Glenn's show I will still never buy your product ever again"

That's what we got. Again, and again, and again. All day long on Monday. We were overwhelmed by emails cc'ed to Sargentos or just send to us. So at midnight we counted them. 3 THOUSAND. For Sargento alone. On our first day as a website! You think that company is going to feel a big bite from the actions of Pat Lombardo & Co., during a recession no less? You betcha.

9:03am Update: Nice to see people taking our Cabot suggestion. It really is great cheese!

UPDATE: SARGENTO HAS NOW RECEIVED AT LEAST 5,500 EMAILS FROM OUR USERS.
